Grandparents and Special Friends Day
Grandparents and Special Friends Day provides an opportunity for our students to showcase all the things they love about their school with people they love. We hold this tradition to give very special members of our community a chance to experience their loved ones' school days. This year, we will welcome our Grandparents and Special Friends for a special assembly, classroom visits, performances, art, and more on Friday, May 10 from 8:30-11:30am.
Check in will start at 8:30am, and the opening assembly will begin at 9:15am. Guests can enjoy breakfast, an optional tour of the school, or take a commemorative photo during this time. We encourage parents/guardians to coordinate drop-off, using rideshare, or public transportation as parking is limited.
Friday, May 10 is a half-day for students. They will be dismissed at 11:30am. Extended Care will be available and additional details will be shared next week.
In addition there will be a few virtual opportunities for grandparents and special friends to join us from different corners of the country (and world!). There will be a Virtual Tea with Virginia on Thursday, May 9 and a livestream of the Opening Assembly on Friday, May 10.
This special day is specifically designed for Grandparents and Special Friends. Parents and Guardians who want to participate can help by volunteering. Be on the lookout for a link to a Zoom Volunteer Orientation on Thursday, May 9. This will prepare us for an early start on Friday, May 10. Invitations have been sent via email and traditional mail, but we do not have contact information for all the grands and special friends in our community. Please pass this message along to anyone you would like to include in this special celebration.

We don’t have family locally. Who can be a special friend?
Anyone! Special friends have included close neighbors, older siblings, cousins, coaches, and anyone else who plays a special role in your child’s life.
My family does not live locally. Will my child be the only student without a guest?
Absolutely not! While many students have guests, not everyone does. In Live Oak fashion, students who have a special visitor ask their friends to join in and they spend the day in partners and groups.
Can I participate as my child’s special friend?
While we wish we could welcome everyone, this day prioritizes the participation of grands and special friends who might not otherwise visit the school. Parents and guardians are invited to volunteer to support the experience of our visitors.
