Our Community

Family Engagement

There are numerous ways for parents and guardians to get involved, whether by taking a leadership role, volunteering on a regular basis, or heading up an important initiative or inclusive social gathering.

All parents and guardians of current students are members of the Parent Guardian Association (PGA). The PGA takes an active role in organizing volunteers for classroom and school activities; facilitating communication between parents, teachers, and administration; providing parent education; fostering an engaged and inclusive sense of community; and promoting outreach to our neighbors.

Live Oak parents and guardians are part of our learning community, taking part in a myriad of parent education programs offering opportunities to learn together. Visiting authors, researchers, and consultants are invited to share their expertise and further our collective knowledge. Grade Level roundtables offer a chance for parents to discuss age-appropriate developmental characteristics and parenting strategies. SPEAK, led by a consortium of independent schools, hosts educational events throughout the year, for our families and faculty. Everyone is a life long learner at Live Oak.

Spotlight: Family Service Nights

Every year, Live Oak hosts a Family Service Night that is dedicated to supporting local nonprofits and bringing the entire Live Oak community together as changemakers. Families work alongside each other on initiatives that include organizing book donations and creating baby blankets for the Homeless Prenatal Project, making toys for the animals at the San Francisco Animal Care & Control, creating greeting cards for Meals on Wheels, and creating seed packets, among other projects.

Spotlight: Book Fest

Visiting author and illustrator events, book-related crafts, and recommendations from our dedicated librarians round out this celebration of reading and literature. The Book Fest invites parents and students to support the library by purchasing books, both for their own reading and as gifts to the school.
Live Oak School welcomes and admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin, citizenship status, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, and faith to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities of Live Oak School. Live Oak School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin, citizenship status, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, and faith in administration of its educational policies and programs, admissions policies, Adjusted Tuition program, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
